Vitiligo Surgery

Vitiligo or Leukoderma is a common problem which is socially unacceptable.

A common myth about a Vitiligo/ Leukoderma/ White skin patch is- it always occurs because of internal genetic/blood problem. In reality, it may occur following external injury to skin like trauma/ burn/ infection also.

If Vitiligo is progressing, it should be treated first by medical treatment to make it stable or to reduce in size. After it is stable in size, we recommend surgical removal and skin grafting for residual lesion. Some difficult Vitiligo patches not responding to medical treatment needs surgical removal. Excision is our preferred technique in smaller area to give best possible color match. We use Dermabrasion + Skin grafting for larger lesions.

White skin patch following Trauma or Burn or Infection (External origin) almost always needs surgical removal and suturing/ skin grafting.
